Emission reductions that occur outside of a product’s life cycle or value chain, as a result of the use of that product . Examples of products (goods and services) that avoid emissions include low-temperature detergents, fuel-saving tires, and teleconferencing services.
This is used in association with GHG emissions, associated with biogenic fuels such as wood or biogas (captured methane). Biogenic fuels are combusted on-site but do not contribute to direct emissions.
